Workshops and Demonstrations
Sharing knowledge and helping people to make their own chocolates through workshops and demonstrations is great fun. And I’m finding out new things all the time too!
Over the last few weeks, I have demonstrated how to make chocolates in front of 300 school children at the Eyres Monsall Primary School in Leicester and adult audiences at Food Fairs and Corporate Events.
At the East of England Food Fair the audience included French celebrity chef, Jean-Christophe Novelli. He told me that my presentation was ‘great’ and that I’m a ‘good teacher!’ His sentiments seemed to be confirmed by the rest of the audience in their stampede up to the stage at the end of the show – to devour the chocolates that I made in front of them. This seems to be becoming a regular feature at the end of my demonstrations!

I’ve also spent a fabulous couple of days at the Callebaut factory in Banbaury where there is a wonderful team of chocolate experts only too keen to share new ideas, flavours and chocolate developments. Of course at the moment they are also talking about the health-giving initiatives across the chocolate industry to reduce sugar in chocolate. I’ve come away brimming with new flavour ideas that I’ll start introducing to my range. I have also just purchased a lovely single origin chocolate from Brazil that I tasted while I was at Callebaut. Interestingly at the moment it has a smoky flavour which is very different from the fruits that you’d normally associate with it. Perhaps it might have absorbed the flavour of smoke from a forest fire? Who knows but it’s deliciously different!
Of course, we’re looking this week ahead to an important date that now also has chocolate associations – Easter. And inevitably there are Easter eggs to be enjoyed. I have some wild and whacky, individual designs using coloured cocoa butter on my Easter eggs which you can see here. Please get in touch on my Contact Page if you’d like some for yourself.
